Thank you for making this clear for everybody.
Its so important to ensure that the counsellor you choose for yourself is properly qualified and accredited.
I like the way that you mention that every good pracitioner will be having supervision - YES - that is an absolute MUST for all counsellors to do.
Good counsellors will always continue to have supervision, even well after they are qualified, and even when they do not necessarily need to to meet any criteria for qualifications or accreditation any more.
We are all human and all have our blind spots, and we owe it to clients to ensure that we are being the best practitioner that we can be.
Supervision of a counsellors cases cost the counsellor money. They have to pay about 35 to 60 pounds per hour to have the supervision.
But it is best practice to do so, and every responsible counsellor will do it, no matter how many years of practice they have been in.
Additionally, I would say to look for a counsellor who cares about their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). All BACP and UKCP counsellors have CPD requirements, and probably counsellors under other national organisations do so as well.
Its important that counsellors continue to learn and train in all different areas of personal development, and emotional wellness, so that they can address the wide variety of issues that clients have.
