Maybe it feels safer to be labeled? Wonder what it would be like to come here and not have a label? |

What are you confused about Katie? If it's about labels we have a choice. We do not have to accept labels. There will always be people who will label and those who wont. Some people feel safe with a label because then they know exactly where they are. Some people hate labels. I personally think labels are inappropriate, because people change constantly so labels change and there is no need of them anyway. _________________ Gilly

wow, i havent looked at this thread for a couple of days, and like dibs i am totally blown away by it. It is thought provoking, inspiring, supportive, and most of all it feels like family coming together.
i so relate to dibs comment about coming to this forum via a long personal journey. I have stayed here because it has in many ways given me back to me. that is a gift that is so precious.
But the welcome and the support i recieved when i arrived in an emotional mess wil be something that i doubt i will ever forget. - fran i dont know how i would have gotten through those very difficult months without you there holding me. I doubt that i will ever forget what you did for me - so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
But there is not one person here that i am not grateful to in some small / massively huge way. pastmember / soulless you have made me laugh, made me cry, made me doubt myself, made me VERY VERY ANGRY, made me feel human, and for whatever our differences are, i cannot take away the fact that you have and are challenging me in a way that i could never have thought possible. and so i do want to give you a special hug,and say thank you. (ps - please dont take that as a green card to push my buttons - i am still learning about self control!)
Oh my, i am beginning to feel soppy and sentimental about this family here, i just know that the last 6 months for me has been a growth period for me that i could not and would not have conceived possible a year ago.
You know what guys, i am so so proud to be part of this family!
love
rusty

not really confused. i suppose this discussion has just made me look at myself. that's not a bad thing as i have a lot to learn. a lot of the time i just avoid looking at who i am because its not always a pretty site. glad i got involved in this discussion as it has distracted me from painful stuff and allowed me to look at other parts of me. sorry for rambling. thank you. |

You are not stupid katie - maybe I could have not asked the questions I did in this thread as it did take it away from the initial discussion of the thread. The thread has kind of evolved. |

I sort of remember a little of this from my counselling training and realised that I have many roles..
Father
Husband
Manager (at work)
Son (now sadly gone)
Friend
Facilitator
Negotiator
When I realised how many hats I was wearing (roles) it explained how frazzled I used to feel. I just tried to look for a list of roles but only found those that dealt with business, e.g. starter, finisher, planner, negotiator etc. |

I think i'm a mixture of quite a few of these, both on the inside and the outside. Thank you for posting them pastmember as they've given me something to think about.. |

I think they are taken from a family living with someone who has a drinking problem but I think they fit any family living with any kind of addiction, or dysfunction. I guess that includes groups too. |

Labels, Labels, Labels, Who in heavens name started this! We all have label thrust upon us whether we like it or not. We live in a label society. Hopefully here we can stay away from labels. Although pastmember I recognise you have received your fair quota in your time here. _________________ Gilly
